The Childs Play Outdoors podcast is where I think out loud. Many of the conversations you'll hear here begin as the voice notes behind the articles on this site. Instead of starting with a finished answer, I use them to explore a subject, question assumptions, follow the occasional rabbit hole, and work through what I actually think.
That means these podcasts aren't intended to sound like finished articles. You'll hear ideas develop, questions come up that I don't immediately have answers for, and sometimes assumptions I've held for years get challenged along the way. You're hearing the process that happens before the conclusions get cleaned up and organized on the page.
There's another important distinction between the two. When I write an article for Childs Play Outdoors, I make a serious effort to research and fact-check the technical details before I publish it. I don't have that luxury while I'm thinking through a subject in real time. In the podcast, I'm often working from memory and experience, and sometimes I'll get a detail wrong. That's part of exploring the question. Those details are checked and corrected before they become part of a published article.
