If you've spent much time around hunters or shooters, you've probably noticed something. The outdoor industry is filled with great people and great products—but it's also filled with assumptions, marketing claims, and advice that has been repeated so often it becomes accepted as fact.
Sometimes those often-repeated mantras of our industry are right, but sometimes it's not the complete picture, and sometimes those mantras can be wrong. At Childs Play Outdoors, we believe better decisions begin with better understanding.
Our goal isn't simply to tell you which cartridge to hunt with, which rifle to buy, or which scope to mount. Those answers are rarely the same for each person, or even for each scenario. Instead, we try to explain how things work and how the situation can require different solutions, along with the compromises each solution might entail. Our goal is for you to understand why one solution works better than another for each specific application.
Once you understand why, you no longer have to rely on someone else's opinion. You create your own informed opinions. Then you can evaluate new information, solve problems, and make confident decisions on your own.

I don't claim to know everything, and I don't expect my understanding to stop evolving. Every year I learn something that changes the way I think about rifles, bullets, optics, hunting, or ballistics. Sometimes it's because new technology emerges. Sometimes it's because new evidence challenges an old assumption. And sometimes it's because experience teaches me something I hadn't considered before.
The goal of Childs Play Outdoors isn't to defend what I already believe. It's to pursue a better understanding alongside the people who read it. If better information becomes available, I'll gladly change my mind. That's not a contradiction to "Question Everything." It's a commitment to it.
